Very rare 1956 Mercury big back window tow truck. Truck is a rust free truck from California. Sheet metal is gorgeous. I believe that Ford only made 1100 big back window cabs in the 56 model year and only three were used on this size of truck.This was a show truck new and very state of the art at the time. I am 68 years old and it was my father’s truck new. When my father became ill when I was only 18 years old, I drove this truck to support my family. I have virtually owned this truck all my life. Truck has been stored the last 12 years. I feel it is time to find my truck a good new home. It runs fine and I know the motor, trans, and 2 speed rear end are all in great shape. The truck will need  brakes rebuilt to be safe and functional. Cab is the same as the pickups of this era and parts are readily available such as mechanical, gas tanks, cosmetics etc at very reasonable prices. Original fuel tank is clean like new and I just installed new fuel pump. The wheels are the original split rims and I have an upgrade set of 5 lug tubeless wheels and tires including spare that goes with this truck. It has a rare factory radio with ceiling speaker, factory mechanical tachometer that runs off the distributor, rare factory hood scoop, 312 Y block engine, 4 speed transmission with 2 speed rear end, and vacuum assist brakes. This is a Custom Cab model and I have the side moldings that go around the door glass where you can see the small holes and these moldings were only on the big back window cabs. Very rare. It has period correct dolly wheels to tow cars that won’t trail on either end, Tulsa 20 ton winch runs off trans PTO, Holmes sling for cars and heavy duty truck tow bar as well. This is a rare opportunity to own an easy to restore piece of history
